Graceland: A 40th Anniversary Acoustic Tribute & Singalong
Presented by Phil Norman
You Can Call Me Al. Diamonds On the Soles of Her Shoes. All the songs you know and love from Paul Simon's classic album stripped down to just a guitar and voice. And your voice singing along.
"Graceland is one of the albums that made me fall in love with albums," explains Roanoke singer-songwriter Phil Norman. “Underneath the incredible arrangements and performances of the South African musicians are simple song structures that Paul Simon used to enable that cross-cultural collaboration. Once I recognized that foundation, I undertook the personal project to strip each song back to a solo arrangement. The 40th anniversary of Graceland’s release feels like a great time to bring it to the Spot with few special guests.”
Join us for a special one-night-only tribute to Paul Simon’s classic album in its entirety.
Known for his inviting stage presence and “weary but warm” delivery, Phil Norman has long been one of Roanoke's favorite folksingers. Spot on Kirk fans will remember him for his songwriters-in-the-round appearances, his 2016 sold-out solo tribute to the Counting Crows' "August and Everything After," and as part of the bands Appalachian Soul and Blue Moonshine.
